Tip! Don’t use your old worn-out shoes for winter running. Do not start your winter running in shoes that have 400-500 miles on them.
The toughest of all athletes in the world are not Football Players wearing pads and involved in plays for only 8-15 seconds. And the real athletes are not the baseball players who hit the ball as hard as they can or sit for most of the competition on a bench chewing tobacco products. The real athletes are not those who drive around in Golf Carts.

It’s a good idea to consult your doctor before beginning any physical activity. The information in this article is not meant to be technical, it’s just a guideline. Use the information as you like.
With that said, let’s talk about running and its benefits.
The wonderful thing about running/jogging is that I can be done just about anywhere in the world. All you really need is a good pair of shoes and some determination.

Tip! If you have not previously been active I suggest you alternate between walking and running. For example, run for 2 minutes and then without stopping, walk for 3-5 minutes.
I’ve heard many examples of ultra-running but this one gets the (freezing) cake: how about a very very cool 26.2 miles at the North Pole?
On April 7, 2007, a group of super athletes — motivated by a curious drive totally alien to 99.9% of the humanity — will run a marathon in the North Pole by paying 9,300 Euros for the privilege.

Tip! Another cause of lower back pain for runners is the thought that running is about going forward, okay of course it is, but it doesn’t require you to ‘push’ forward to do it. Running is really about passing a force into the ground and using the hip, knee and ankle joints to translate that into a forward motion.
The early stages for anyone taking up running can be tricky. Get it wrong in the early days and you could be put off this excellent activity to keep in shape. But if you can get it right, it could be the start of a beautiful relationship between you and simply one of the most rewarding of all activities; running. Running is an ideal symmetrical activity for keeping fit and healthy. However, it is common for people to blame running for injuries rather than accept that it may be how they run that is at fault. We assume that to run is just a matter of putting one foot in front of the other with no specific skill required. Unfortunately, this is not the case as observing any group of runners can prove. What should be an ideal way to improve and maintain fitness is often the cause of many problems.

If you think you would enjoy jogging or running, here’s how to get started. First, check with your doctor and get a good pair of running shoes. Start out by jogging slowly until your legs feel heavy or hurt or you feel tired. Then stop for the day, even if you have taken only a few steps. Do this every day or every other day. You should be able to work up to the point where you can jog slowly for at least 20 minutes. If you’re happy with this program, you don’t have to go any further. However, if you want to improve, follow the training methods that competitive runners use.

You exercise so intensely that your muscles burn and you gasp for breath. Then you slow down for a minute or two, catch your breath, and then go very fast again. This training technique has been used in all endurance sports since the 1920’s. Now George Brooks of the University of California at Berkeley has shown why interval training makes you a better athlete (American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, June 2006).

From running barefoot to running in shoes that cost a small fortune- running sure has come a long way. Today there is such a wide range of shoes available, it takes mental gymnastics to decide which shoe would be right for you!
It was in the last century that we saw so many changes in running shoes. In the beginning of the century, running shoes were simple rubber-soled plimsolls. Today they are air- cushioned, sometimes filled with gel capsules. So they look good, feel good and add up to better performance.

Tip! Make sure your shoes fit. Running shoes used for summer may not be an appropriate fit for winter.
Born Reginald Bush, this California native came into the world in March 1985 in San Diego. He grew up in Spring Valley where his father worked as a campus security officer and his mother was employed by the county jail as a deputy sheriff. While attending Helix High School, Bush showed a big interest in athletics as he succeeded in both football and track. Nicknamed The President, Reggie later took his love of football with him as he went off to college. He has played a variety of positions as a member of the University of Southern California Trojans football team. Among them, running back, tail back, wide receiver, punt and kickoff return. Out of all positions, Bush is perhaps best noted for his status as a running back. In fact, he is believed to be one of the best, if not the best, running back in USC’s history.
